The Price of Airfare

I was theorizing about what it would cost to visit England to see my daughter after she moves there this fall. Not wanting to skew the results with the cost around holidays, I picked a date in mid-September as a comparison point.

Hey! That seems very affordable. $750 is doable. In fact, given that an eight hour flight in coach would nearly kill me, I wonder what first class costs.

A factor of 10 to 20 higher? Ummm, maybe not.

But how much would it cost to fly United and then cover the economy plus surcharge?

(and wow those prices are good compared to one way tickets. When I checked, one way for me and the dog were over $1400 for each of us but if we fly together we can only go on Virgin or BA)

Oh and. . .international flights= 3 levels of service. Business and first are about on par on the domestic airlines for the trips over the Atlantic (unless you get the mysterious upgraded 777 which always seem to get pulled from service the week before the trip), so never pay for the first. But upgrades at check in to business from economy are more like $500 (at least that's what we saw when we went).
